Pack Light. Look Right.
Most guys don't overpack, they just pack wrong. Five t-shirts and a pair of jeans because it's easy, not because it actually covers the trip. Then day two shows up, plans change, and there's nothing in the bag that works for it.
Packing well is the same skill as dressing well: think it through instead of grabbing what's already clean. A few pieces that work together beat a bag full of options that don't actually cover anything.
The weekend formula. For a long weekend, Thursday night through Sunday, you need less than you'd guess, if it's the right less. Two shirts, one pant, one versatile layer. Mix in what you wore on the plane and you've got four days covered without repeating an outfit in any way anyone would notice.
The key is pieces that travel: fabrics that don't wrinkle badly, don't need babying, and look as good on day three as day one. Fine-yarned cotton earns its keep here. It breathes, it recovers, it holds its structure.
What to actually bring. A shirt that tucks for dinner and untucks for the day, one pant that can dress up if the trip calls for it, and something to throw on when the temperature drops after dark. Round it out with the right shoes. A clean pair of white sneakers covers more ground on a trip like this than people give it credit for, comfortable enough for a full day walking, still sharp enough to not look out of place at dinner.
